UIDAI approves iris recognition software for Aadhaar authentication
The software was tested in Samsung Galaxy Tab Iris, during the performance testing
New Delhi: ActiveIRIS has become the first software to pass the performance testing of integrated mobile devices to be used for Aadhaar authentication.
The software has been developed by Delta ID Inc., a leader in consumer-grade iris technology for mobile phones.
This software was tested in Samsung Galaxy Tab Iris, during the performance testing, held by standardization, testing and quality certification (STQC), in collaboration with C-DAC (Centre for Development of Advanced Computing), a premier R&D organization of the department of electronics and information technology, and Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), in May.
“I believe we are at that the cusp of a major change in how biometrics, particularly iris, will play a role in enabling access to a variety of services we use in our daily lives," said Salil Prabhakar, President and CEO of Delta ID Inc.
A rigorous performance test was conducted in the national capital by STQC, an internationally recognized assurance service providing organization and owns accreditation by professional bodies, and UIDAI , to finalize a reliable iris integrated mobile device, which can be used for Aadhaar authentication and eKYC (e-know your customer) applications, according to Salil Prabhakar.
With more than one billion Aadhaar enrolments, the use of Aadhaar for resident authentication /name, address, gender, age/DOB, mobile number, email address and biometric details as well/ and eKYC is expected to rapidly spread across services for government and private enterprises.
Iris authentication is widely accepted as a secure and reliable biometric modality. It is also critical for Aadhaar, a key component of government’s Jan Dhan Aadhaar Mobile (JAM) -led initiatives. Iris works across a broader population, across all age groups and occupations.
