BackGlobal PC shipments continue to fall with 5.7% decline in Q3: Gartner
Lenovo maintains lead with shipments of 14.4 million units and market share of 20.9%, followed closely by HP, which shipped 14.1 million units with a market share of 20.4%

Worldwide personal computer (PC) shipments in the third quarter of 2016 declined 5.7% to 68.9 million units from a year earlier, according to preliminary numbers released by researcher Gartner Inc. on Wednesday. This quarter was the eighth straight quarter of PC shipment decline, Gartner said.
“There are two fundamental issues that have impacted PC market results: the extension of the lifetime of the PC caused by excess of consumer devices, and the weak PC consumer demand in emerging markets," said Mikako Kitagawa, principal analyst at Gartner.
Lenovo maintained its top position with a shipment of 14.4 million units and market share of 20.9%, followed closely by HP Inc., which shipped 14.1 million units with a market share of 20.4%.
Dell secured the third position with 10.1 million shipments and market share of 14.7%. Lenovo has recorded six consecutive quarters of year-over-year shipment declines, while rivals HP and Dell, have recorded shipment growth since the second quarter of 2016, the report said.
While US recorded a 0.3% decline to 16.2 million units in the third quarter, Asia-Pacific PC shipments witnessed a steeper decline of 7.6% at 24.7 million units. PC shipments in China are estimated to have declined 4.8%.
