RCom, Lenovo sign deal to sell smartphones
The two firms will make smartphones that can work simultaneously on CDMA and GSM networks
Mumbai: Reliance Communications Ltd (RCom) signed a partnership deal with China’s Lenovo Group Ltd, the world’s second-largest maker of personal computers, to make smartphones that will work on CDMA and GSM networks simultaneously.
RCom and Tata Teleservices Ltd are the only companies with the licence to operate mobile telephony services using both technologies in India.
The Reliance Lenovo smartphones will be available “across screen sizes and processor speeds," RCom said in a release on Thursday.
“The Indian smartphone market represents solid growth opportunities where CDMA/GSM smartphone penetration is still low," said Liu Jin, president, Lenovo Business Group. “With this partnership, we aim to replicate our China success and gain market share in the booming smartphone market in India."
Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd, Spice and Micromax already sell dual technology smartphones in India.
