San Francisco: VeriSign Inc., the main manager of the web-address database, will spend more than $100 million over the next three years on facilities and computing equipment to keep pace with the growth of the internet. The company, which oversees the dot-com and dot-net domain names, operates two of the world’s 13 “root servers,” computers that direct Internet traffic globally. The upgrade will allow VeriSign to handle 4 trillion web- address queries a day and increase network speeds to 200 gigabits per second, the company said in a statement. VeriSign also will expand operations in more than 100 locations worldwide, including India, Germany, Chile and South Africa.
