Want to buy a tablet that is not Apple? Here are two new options to choose from

Lenovo IdeaTab Lynx K3011
There are two parts to this product—the Lynx as a tablet, and the overall package with the keyboard dock attached. It weighs just more than 640g as a tablet, and the keyboard dock adds another 660g. There is no doubt that the Lynx is good to look at, with the darker colour tone at the front and the lighter rubberized finish at the back, but it doesn’t feel nearly as premium.
The critical aspect is its keyboard. The key design is similar to the recent IdeaPad and Yoga machines. The problem is the curved design at the bottom of every key, which makes it difficult for the fingers to get used to the layout.
The 11.6-inch screen on the Lynx does not have a full HD resolution, and instead is limited to 1,366x768 pixels. Most Android tablets are running at far higher resolutions, but the Lynx display is crisp, with accurate colour reproduction.
As a tablet for multimedia consumption or in the docked mode when you may be reading text, this in-plane switching screen is extremely comfortable. Touch-screen response is accurate and quick, and that makes using Windows 8.1 a lot more fun.
Lenovo claims 8 hours of battery life from the tablet’s battery, and another 8 hours with the dock’s additional pack. For the tablet battery, we registered 6.5 hours in our battery benchmark, run at full load and 100% display brightness.
The 64 GB flash storage is fairly quick, booting into Windows 8 in about 11 seconds. The 2 GB RAM does prove to be a limitation when you open 10 tabs in Google Chrome and want to open iTunes in the background—app opening times become that much longer. But for most typical home and home office uses, tasks like multimedia viewing, Web browsing, emails and document creation, the IdeaTab Lynx works smoothly.
