Lounge Review | Tabla Rasa
Thirty minutes into a Sunday brunch at Tabla Rasa, the recently-opened rooftop restaurant at Saket’s Square One Mall, my six-person table decided it was time to leave. Drinks had not arrived. The waiters insisted there was no unlimited offer of alcohol, despite it still being written on the flyers on every table. The chefs were milling around. Four hours later, everyone was singing a different tune: “I can’t believe you wanted to leave!" “You were the one fighting to go!"
How did the restaurant miraculously recuperate? How did it soothe six angry, hungry and thirsty diners? A simple recipe: An onslaught of delicious food, a mean Bloody Mary and calling out the owner to figure out the pricing system once and for all. Tabla Rasa’s mishmash of an international menu (sushi next to pasta next to hummus platters) doesn’t detract in the least from its ability to produce delicious food. The steamed baos were snatched up, the cheese, dip and fruit spread deserved two visits and the live sushi bar had some interesting rolls.
The good stuff
The buffet and menu offer options for even the pickiest of diners. Plus, the ambience (once you get past the construction) is relaxed and cool.
The not-so-good stuff
The service stumble really aggravated the table.
Talk plastic
Rs1,500 will get you unlimited food off the buffet, four choices from the menu and any drink made with Indian alcohol. For Rs1,000 you can have all the same food and one drink made with foreign liquor.
