Six-month-old English website Lovematters.info last week launched Lovematters.in, its Hindi-language avatar, to provide information on sexual issues. Started by Radio Netherlands Worldwide, the Dutch broadcaster, the website aims to discuss issues in a way that is “friendly, open, and honest", says Vithika Yadav, the Hindi website editor. “But the content has been tailored to the sensitivities of India; adapted, I would say."
The website’s home page lists the information available in a column on the left, “in a language which is easy to understand and relay", says Yadav. From the male and female bodies, pregnancy and birth control, to a guide on sexually transmitted diseases and safe sex, it’s all there. Each article is followed by space for readers to post comments and queries. Every query is being responded to, says Yadav —by them or their partner Tarshi (Talking About Reproductive and Sexual Health Issues), a non-profit working in the area of sexual health.
