Take a walk down Sullivan Street in downtown New York City and you’ll find the “Dosa Man” – the owner of a wildly popular food cart parked on the corner of Washington Square South that sells dosas and other Indian treats like idlis and samosas. Thiru Kumar, the cart’s owner, has become so famous for his street food that he’s now listed in tour guide books in 42 countries.
“I just love the freshness of his food”, says customer Nayoung Kang. “And he always remembers who you are if you’re a regular customer.”
A combination of Kumar’s friendly service, fresh food, and value-for-money meals (everything is priced at $6 or less) has meant his business has stayed steady during the US recession and his regular customers have remained loyal.
