News You Can Use: Be careful about mobile data
While many smartphone users keep their work files on phones, most of them are not careful about keeping them secure, says Kaspersky Lab
NEW DELHI :
The security company Kaspersky Lab has released a report which suggests that while many smartphone users keep their work files on phones, most of them are not careful about keeping them secure.
Of the 12,355 smartphone users surveyed in 26 countries, including India, 89% were not aware of the need for securing work data on their phones, the report, released on 3 August, says. This included emails, account passwords, VPN (virtual private network) credentials, even files with confidential information.
Some ways of securing the work data include setting layers of passwords for mails and document access, not connecting to unknown Wi-Fi hot spots, setting up the remote access/wipe feature in case the phone is lost, and installing an anti-malware app. Many organizations allow their employees to use their personal phones and tablets to access office infrastructure for mails, file sharing, etc. This might be convenient, but employees also need to be guided on how to keep company data secure.
