OTHERS :

By the time you read this, there will be news of a new iPhone heading to tech town—though not to India yet. The iPhone is undoubtedly impressive, but it is certainly not the only super phone around. There are a fair number of devices in the market that can hold their own against it, and at lower prices too.

The following smartphones are worth considering.

OnePlus 3

27,999*

After the disappointment of last year’s OnePlus 2, OnePlus bounced back perfectly this summer with the OnePlus 3. It has an all-metal body and a 5.5-inch Optic AMOLED Full HD display. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and offers a whopping 6 GB RAM. The 16-megapixel camera is good enough to give the flagship Android phones a run for their money. It wouldn’t be wrong to call the OnePlus 3 a genuine flagship killer.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge

50,990

Till a couple of years ago, the Korean smartphone giant was not exactly known for beautifully designed smartphones, but all that changed with the Galaxy S6 Edge. And by the time its successor, the S7 Edge, arrived, Samsung’s design language of glass and metal was one of the most beautiful designs around. All this without compromising on hardware—the phone has a 5.5-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED curved display, 4 GB RAM, and a 12-megapixel camera that many consider to be among the best in the business. This is a phone that will turn heads.

LG G5

40,990

This phone did not quite trigger off the “modular phone" revolution that many had hoped it would, but there is no denying that the LG G5 is extremely powerful. Yes, it is a very plain-looking phone, but beneath that simplicity lies a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 4 GB RAM and 32 GB storage. It has a Quad HD 5.3-inch display, and comes with an excellent 16-megapixel camera.

Asus ZenFone 3 Deluxe

63,000

This is the first time Asus has launched a phone in the flagship price segment, and the ZenFone 3 Deluxe comes across as one of the most powerful devices you can buy. It is the first phone to run the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor, and is paired with 6 GB RAM and colossal, 256 GB storage. Plus, it has a 23-megapixel camera, a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED Full HD display, and a beautifully crafted metal body.

LeEco Le Max 2

29,999

The Chinese smartphone brand seems to have learnt its lessons from its first-generation phones, which is why the LeEco Le Max 2 is a genuine improvement. It runs formidable hardware—a 5.7-inch Quad HD display, a Snapdragon 820 processor, 6 GB RAM, 64 GB storage and a 21-megapixel camera. But its most notable feature is perhaps the fact that it has ditched the 3.5 mm audio jack for a USB Type C port for charging, as well as for the earphones.

Microsoft Lumia 950 XL

40,000

The Lumia 950 XL is ideal for professionals. It is the only phone that can actually work as a Windows 10 computer if plugged to a TV, monitor or projector via the Microsoft Display Dock accessory. The phone has a 5.7-inch Quad HD display, and runs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 processor, 3 GB RAM and 32 GB storage. Its 20-megapixel camera is considered by many to be among the best.

The Windows Phone does lose out to Android and iOS in terms of the variety of apps, but when it comes to performance and user experience, there are no shortcomings.
