Reading: Indian fantasy
It has been an exceptionally fertile year for erotic writing in English for Indian publishing
“This book is an entertainment device and does not require batteries," reads the fine print in a corner on the back-cover of Play With Me (Penguin Books India, ₹ 250), the latest among a slew of erotic novels in English to have appeared this year in India. Sreemoyee Piu Kundu’s Sita’s Curse (Hachette India, ₹ 350) and Madhuri Banerjee’s Scandalous Housewives: Mumbai (Rupa Publications, ₹ 295), the first of a multi-part series, are the other recent notable additions to the genre.
