Calligraphy

The Bliss of Being

Till 20 April

Calligraphy is an intricate practice. Laying an expressive stroke full of rhythm and bounce, and controlling the nib and the flow of ink, is achieved only practice.

The ‘Bliss of Being’ showcases the calligraphic works of Poosapati Parameshwar Raju. This exhibition will showcase works that have evolved over 25 years of practice in the art of calligraphy. The works have been chosen from eight series—starting from the earlier works on Mythological iconography.

Raju hails from Vizianagaram. And consequently, the artist knows about traditional customs, rituals, practices and folklore that have been passed on through generations. Raju specialized in design from the Government School of Art in Aurangabad.

The artist, over a stretch of time, has been successful in bringing together knowledge, his experiences as a professional in the area of design and his practise of calligraphy. He has travelled extensively within the country soaking in history, aesthetic information of culture and tradition and also exploring various inks, nibs and papers. At the Ethos Gallery, Jayanagar.
