New-generation smart gadgets help take care of your health. Here are some to keep you on track
OTHERS :
The latest generation of smart gadgets isn’t just about fun and games. Thanks to all the debate on the modern lifestyle and its negative impact on health and well-being, developers have been focusing on technology that can help people lead healthy lives. We list some gadgets that can help enhance the ability to understand and improve a daily fitness routine.
Plantronics BackBeat FIT
₹ 7,490
We tested this on a rainy day and found that solid drenching didn’t do the FIT any harm. The ear-tip has been designed so that while it fits snugly in, it doesn’t block out the ambient sound completely. In the gym, or outdoors, the user won’t be oblivious to any possible danger nearby. Those who prefer jogging or cycling will find the headset’s reflective finish quite useful after sundown.
In terms of what matters most—the sound—the FIT does a decent job. The vocals sound crisp, and while the volume can go quite high, it doesn’t sound sharp. Bass is on the weaker side though, and that is evident in certain genres of music, particularly trance. The FIT isn’t the most affordable headset for the gym, but its robust water-resistance capabilities give it a good chance of outlasting the alternatives.
Samsung Gear Fit
₹ 15,450
The optical heart-rate sensor is the critical bit in all the data collection and personalized recommendations. We found the pedometer app to be rather addictive—it tells you how many steps you took from the time you switch it on and off. I walked about 4,000 steps (about 3km) in 9 hours. The wristband-style design makes it more comfortable than a watch, and it can even be worn while sleeping, if you wish to keep track of your sleep habits. While the Gear Fit is compatible only with select Samsung smartphones at the moment, the good part is that the exercise results are given on the watch itself, and you don’t have to rely on any phone to get the scores. Those who are into cycling, running and hiking can get their own set of apps as well. Oh, did we tell you, you can also take a call on Gear Fit?
