Watching the oldies on DVD is never as good, and there never can be anything quite like watching Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman on the large screen. PVR Cinemas, in collaboration with Ray-Ban, is organizing The Ray-Ban Greatest Films at the Theatres Once Again, a film festival of Hollywood classics, from 26 November to 2 December. The movies will be screened at various PVR theatres across the country.
It took PVR Cinemas around four months to procure digitized prints for the films from Warner Bros and Paramount cinemas. “Thankfully, when we did get in touch with them they were fairly enthusiastic about the promotion of their films, but yes, it took time to get written permissions,” says Shalu Sabharwal, vice-president, sales and marketing, PVR Cinemas Ltd. PVR Cinemas now plans to have at least two such films festivals every year and may even organize one every quarter in the future, depending on the success of the festival.
The festival will screen movies such as the 1959 epic film Ben-Hur, The Ten Commandments, the 1972 American gangster-drama starring Al Pacino, The Godfather, The Blues Brothers, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, The Italian Job and Casablanca.
Shows will be on at PVR Select Citywalk, Saket, New Delhi (8pm); PVR Ambience, Gurgaon (7.30pm); PVR Juhu, Mumbai (10.20pm on 26 November, 7.30pm on other days); PVR Ampa Mall, Chennai (9pm); PVR Forum Mall, Bangalore (8pm); PVR Central Mall, Hyderabad (9.45pm); and Inox Cinema, Kolkata (8pm). Tickets available at PVR Cinema and Inox cinema box offices.
