• Save your loose change. Try doing it over a year.
• Time your bills around the time you get your pay cheque.
• Make it a habit to use your debit card...always.
• Use the envelope method. Once it is empty, no refill till the next salary.
• For a week at least, write down every rupee you spend on small buys such as coffee or cola. At the end of the month, you will surely feel guilty about your spending habits.
• Create an emergency fund equivalent to three months of your living expenses.
• Don’t give yourself the option of using your retirement funds.

Remember the Latte Factor. It refers to the small amounts of money you spend every day that can otherwise be used to invest and help you later in life. Save Rs5 every day for a year, and, assuming a 10% return, you would have at least Rs1 lakh in 20 years.
