Best big battery Android smartphones to buy

A smartphone with a large battery allows users the luxury to use their phones carelessly

Smartphones with bigger screens, higher resolutions, more processing capabilities and improved cameras tend to drain the battery faster. A phone’s battery is often the weakest link in even the most powerful and really expensive smartphones. One can always tweak the settings, lower the brightness, and switch off data to get those few more minutes of backup time. But if the phone itself has a huge battery, it can last a bit longer, without making any sacrifices in terms of usability. Here are some of the best big battery smartphones you can buy right now.

Lenovo Zuk Z1

Price: Rs13,499

Lenovo’s new phone is a fine example of smartphone craftsmanship. Even with a 4,000mAh battery inside it, the phone tips the scales at a not too uncomfortable 175g and has a thickness of 8.9mm. The battery can muster over a day and half of backup even with heavy usage. It comes with USB type-C standard and supports fast charging. The phone’s key highlight is the bright-looking 1920x1080p resolution, 5.5-inch display which comes with features like night mode that uses up less battery. Powering the Zuk Z1 is a little older but powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor with 3GB RAM. This is the only budget smartphone which offers 64GB of internal storage.

Asus ZenFone Max

Price: Rs9,999 onwards

The upgraded version of the Zenfone Max comes with a similar 5,000mAh battery as its predecessor, but promises a longer battery backup. The phone runs Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) out of the box, though you can’t tell the difference due to the heavy customisation and what still comes across as a somewhat cluttered interface. One of the highlights of the new Android OS is the feature called Doze which identifies the apps which have not been used in a while and automatically switches them off to save battery. The leather-like finish on the back feels good but doesn’t mask the phone’s heftiness (202g). The phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor which has been paired with 2GB/3GB RAM. It offers 32GB storage, which is impressive. The 5.5-inch display has a resolution of 1280x720p and comes with the scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass 4.

Gionee Marathon M5

Price: Rs14,599

The Marathon M5’s key highlight is its 6,050mAh battery, which is the strongest in any smartphone so far. This phone easily lasts over three days when used as a primary phone. It runs a custom interface over the Android 5.1 (Lollipop) OS. The battery is encased inside a solid metallic exterior which feels a bit ungainly for a 5.5-inch screen phone. The phone runs on MediaTek MT6735 octa-core processor with 2GB RAM and can handle multi-tasking and games very well. It offers 32GB of internal storage and can accommodate up to 128GB micro SD cards. The 5.5-inch display with its 1280x720p resolution is on the lower side, at this price.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 3

Price: Rs9,999 onwards

The Redmi Note 3 is one of the sleekest big battery phones available in the market right now. It weighs 164g and is 8.7mm thick, yet carries a 4,000mAh battery. The battery lasts a day and half with ease which is impressive for a big screen phone with a 5.5-inch display and a screen resolution of 1920x1080p. The phone is powerful enough to handle graphic-intensive tasks, thanks to the Snapdragon 650 hexa-core processor which has been paired with 2GB RAM in the 16GB variant and 3GB RAM in the 32GB variant. The 16 megapixels work brilliantly in daylight and handle colours well even in indoor conditions.

Xolo Era 4K

Price: Rs6,499

For users with small hands, Xolo’s Era 4K which comes with a 5-inch display is a viable option. It is powered by a 4,000mAh battery which delivers over two days of backup with moderate to heavy use. There is a battery saver mode which switches on another interface where the user can access only a few apps which consume less battery or are very critical to the user. At 157g, the Era 4K feels slightly heavy but doesn’t feel ungainly on account of its compact form factor and matte finish back. The display packs in a resolution of 1280x720p and has a layer of scratch-resistant gorilla Glass 3. The phone runs on MediaTek MT6735 processor with 2GB RAM in tow. While it’s powerful enough to handle individual tasks and games, it struggles a bit when stressed too much.
