The Hampton Beach Seafood Festival

Hampton, New Hampshire, US | 5-7 September

Celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, the Hampton Beach Seafood Festival is usually held in the weekend after Labor Day, along the seaside promenade. With more than 50 stalls put up by the top local restaurants, several others selling local arts and crafts, live bands and orchestras, the festival continues to be a draw for the food-loving locals. Lots of free culinary demonstrations, a separate area for kids to play and fireworks add to the festival fun.

Eat! Brussels

Brussels, Belgium | 11-14 September

We are not talking about eating your Brussels sprouts here! It’s Brussels’ own food festival. The third edition of this festival dedicated to eating and drinking, will showcase 20 restaurants from five continents. There will be a pavilion for passionate oenophiles to fine-tune their existing knowledge of wines in the tasting and expert sessions. The festival is held along the banks of the picturesque Bois de la Cambre.

Ludlow Food Festival

Ludlow, UK | 12-14 September

Into its 20th year, the historic Ludlow Castle will come alive with more than 160 food exhibitors. Food lovers can sample and buy local produce, or participate in the various food-related activities that are a part of the agenda. There’s also the Real Ale Trail, comprising 12 of the best beers from the local pubs. The festival also includes a series of hands-on cooking workshops such as vegetarian cooking, Indian cooking, baking and so on.There are activities for kids, too, making this a full-family fun affair.

Music City Food and Wine Festival

Nashville, Tennessee| 20-21 September

From Masaharu Morimoto doing an A-Z session on sushi to Tyler Florence’s test kitchen session, this event has some big names from the food industry to woo the foodie crowd. There are 48 chefs involved in several culinary events. The Grand Taste event will feature the top restaurants from Nashville along with 40 different wines, beers and other spirits exhibited on the side. It’s an all-day feast and tasting session. Oktoberfest

Munich, Germany | 22 September – 7 October

An important part of Bavarian culture, this legendary festival has been celebrated since 1810. It is held in Munich but is now replicated in several other cities in the world. It is held in Theresienwiese, called Wiesn colloquially, and is located near the city centre. The main agenda, of course, is to guzzle beer, alongside which are amusement rides, stalls and games. There are rules that the beer served in the Oktoberfest needs to have a minimum of 6% alcohol by volume. The food is traditional Bavarian fare like roast chicken, roast pork, sausages, etc. Nearly 6.4 million people are said to have attended the 2013 edition, so if you love your beer and sausages, this is the place to be.

Guinness and oysters are the leading attractions at this festival. This internationally acclaimed Irish festival has a line-up of seafood trails, tasting events in Galway’s top restaurants, oyster shucking and eating competitions. It is something for families to come together and enjoy, be it the crazy oyster activities or the gourmet food experience, in an atmosphere dominated by Guinness, to the tune of live bands.
