JLR is looking to launch SUVs in the range of `25-27 lakh
Nadir Chinoy, CEO, Inline 4 Motors, the dealer for JLR cars in Andhra Pradesh, speaks about JLR’s India strategy and the new Range Rover. Edited excerpts
Tell us something about the new Range Rover.
This is the flagship model for Land Rover, which was also showcased earlier this year during the media drive event in Morocco. This is a fourth-generation Range Rover and is also referred to as the Vogue. And it has been completely rebuilt.
What has been rebuilt?
See, this new car is made out of aluminium. And that has helped tremendously in weight reduction. So despite being a bigger car (than the last model), they have been able to reduce the weight by 360kg. And this increases the fuel efficiency of the car a lot. The lighter a vehicle is, the more fuel efficient it will become. So, we can also say that it is a ‘‘greener car".
What is the price of the new car?
The price for the base model is ₹ 1.82 crore, ex-showroom, Hyderabad.
Where do you see the market in the near term?
See, despite the sluggish economy, the luxury market in India is doing pretty well. The cars segment is, in fact, expected to grow exponentially. We already have had five enquiries so far and are looking for more. The prospects are bright. And we expect to sell around 12-15 of these vehicles next year.
What are JLR’s plans for this market?
Right now, what I can see is that they are completely focused on expanding their product range. They are looking to launch SUVs in the range of ₹ 25-27 lakh to target a bigger audience and fight the competition better.
