The consulate general of Israel in Bangalore, in association with the Suchitra Film Society, Bangalore International Centre, Alliance Française and 1 Shanthi Road, has organized the city’s first Israeli film festival. Nine popular films from the country are being screened . Among them are ‘The Band’s Visit’, ‘Jellyfish’, ‘Sweet Mud’ and ‘Album 61’.

The Kadambari Art Gallery is hosting an exhibition of about 30 paintings and drawings by Sirpi Jayaraman, who was the principal of the art institute, Bharathiar Palkalaikoodam, in Puducherry. His works have been part of group shows in India, France and South Africa. The works on show are priced upwards of ₹ 10,000.

Commemoration Of Nelson Mandela’s 96th Birthday
18 July
The India International Centre is hosting a commemoration ceremony to mark Nelson Mandela International Day 2014. It will begin at India International Centre’s Gandhi-King Memorial Plaza and end at the Deshmukh Auditorium.
There will be songs by choirs of school students from New Delhi and the National Capital Region, followed by a message from the United Nations secretary general that will be read out by Kiran Mehra-Kerpelman, director of the UN Information Centre for India and Bhutan. A short film on Mandela’s life will also be screened.
A hero of the anti-apartheid struggle, Mandela was the president of South Africa from 1994-99. He died in Johannesburg on 5 December.

This 52-minute film by Wanphrang K. Diengdoh documents the Khasi struggle for identity and right to land. It challenges the stereotypical notions of the unwanted “outsider" who threatens traditions, social structures and moral values. The Khasi film will be shown with English subtitles.
