How well are your three brands being accepted in the Indian market?

See, for us, all three are doing very well. And also, I won’t want to compare apples with oranges. Each of the brands have different identities, different characters. A Lamborghini is a hard core sports car, while a Bentley is a mix of sports and luxury. So, we have a wider range to offer in Bentley. But yes, people love their Lamborghinis too because of their character—the speed and the image of uncompromising and dynamic attitude.

Bugattis are expensive. Are they hard to sell?

See the brand only makes around 300 units. It’s a piece of art with technique that only appreciates with time. You’re talking about a 26 crore-ex showroom car after all. We launched the brand in 2010 and have done roadshows in Delhi Mumbai and Hyderabad also simultaneously. And, I must say, people are loving it and we are excited. We are still building the brand.

Have you sold Bugattis at all?

Yes we have, but I won’t mention the names or the numbers.

What prompted your company to enter this segment?

We are the pioneers in luxury and want to get luxury as close to people as we can. We brought luxury to India in 2003. Name any brand that was here, we brought them.

Nobody knew then how the Indian market would behave and so no one would tinker with these brands except for our founder, Satya Bagla. And look, we celebrate the 10th year of Bentley in India next year.

What would you say will your target be for the year ahead?

You know, we don’t share numbers but I can say we are doing double-digits sales for both the brands (Bentley and Lamborghini) across the country and I think we will do better than this year when it comes to the number of vehicles sold.
