We’re all back after gloriously long, languid and very chic summer holidays. It’s rainy, gloomy and most of us don’t want to let go of that summer feeling. Well, I have a solution—bring summer dressing back home with you to the city. All you need are separates in summery, lightweight fabrics such as jersey, cotton and denim, a few summer accessories, and you’re all set to burn the boulevard.
Some suggestions on what to wear to create the perfect look of comfort mixed with easy glam: a great polo T-shirt (Ralph Lauren’s Blue label patchwork is my favourite); a pair of denim shorts and a great jersey dress. You could use a short cotton dress if you’re not comfortable in jersey—either way, the idea is to look cool and feel easy.
The key to summer dressing is the accessories. Chunky accessories and big bags seem to be refusing to go out of style, so you can happily use all your Spring/Summer buys for a while longer. Key pieces for this look comprise a classic leather handbag—oversized and aged works just as well as oversized and new. My favourite pieces are from Hermès or Louis Vuitton—they look good, age well and never go out of style. From Hermès, I would recommend a Kelly in tan (buy an Hermès dog-coloured bracelet for an extra touch). Louis Vuitton has the most gorgeous leather tote in its cruise collection. The Louis Vuitton Pampellonne GM is a must-buy for everyone who has enough classic pieces, but still need more. Its roped handles in a leather clasp will lend a nautical feel to your summer look. For those particularly hot days, a cotton visor would add nicely to your look—Ferragamo does a great one in a neutral coloured print. A big square pair of Burberry sunglasses and Chanel’s adorable sun-coloured plastic bangles will complete your look.
