Apps to get your money in order
The right mobile app can help you take care of most financial matters without professional help
People are increasingly using their smartphone to pay bills, book tickets and shop online. The same smartphone can come in handy to understand issues related to indirect taxes and insurance. Some of these free apps can help.
Taxo
A free app designed by a professional chartered accountant, Taxo can help people understand, in simple language, the nuances of the excise law, customs duty, foreign trade policy and value-added tax in simple language. The app, which was updated on 23 July, starts with the basics before moving on to general procedures, exemptions and tax rates.
myITreturn
Updated in May, myITreturn is a free income-tax app that helps individuals tackle their tax returns on their phones. After you have filled in the necessary details, the app furnishes information such as tax payable in a year, income-tax refunds and status of returns for the past five years. The tax calculator provides an estimate and allows users to file their return on the phone in a matter of minutes. The app asks for a one-time password that is linked to one’s mobile number.
Policy Bazaar
This app provides in-depth comparison between insurance policies covering two-wheelers, cars and health. It covers every major insurance company in the market, government and private, and their policy packages. Once you have fed in personal details, it shows you the list of all applicable policies, the coverage they will provide, the premium amount, and the duration of the insurance. The app, which was updated on 8 July, is easy to follow and can be helpful if you want to get a policy, but do not want to consult an agent. This app is also approved by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority, so it’s reliable.
