Art Made From Books—Altered, Sculpted, Carved, Transformed: Compiled by Laura Heyenga, Chronicle Books, 176 pages, around Rs 1,700 (Flipkart and Amazon)
“Bookwork”, “Altered Books”, “Paper Sculpture”—call it what you may. This emerging art form, produced using used or old books has a few practitioners around the world. ‘Art Made From Books: Altered, Sculpted, Carved, Transformed’ is an anthology of their gorgeous works. New York-based artist Doug Beube and Atlanta-based artist Brian Dettmer combine photography and mixed media in their installations, British artist Jennifer Collier stitches pages from vintage books to fashion clothes, shoes and household objects, and Mexican artist Arián Dylan makes chess sets out of old book paper. Many more creative inventions—a chest of drawers and shoes, for example—are showcased in the anthology, along with a list of biographies and websites of each artist.
