Geeks love special days. Especially when the day offers an outlet for the never-ending store of humour they seem to have.

So, in true April Fool’s Day tradition, there was much activity in cyberspace about 1 April! Google took the lead once again, announcing “Google Paper," a service that would print all emails in your account and send them to you via regular mail. The elaborate hoax even had its own page (https://mail.google.com/mail/help/paper/more.html) and according to information they put up: “The cost of postage is offset with the help of relevant, targeted, unobtrusive advertisements, which will appear on the back of your Gmail Paper prints in red, bold, 36 pt Helvetica. No pop-ups, no flashy animations—these are physically impossible in the paper medium."

Even National Aeronautics and Space Administration (Nasa) displayed its sense of humour and posted a photo of the “First ever Space Quidditch match" in which the Americans obviously beat the Russians. Wow! Harry Potter does have some serious competition.

But if you thought this was all there was to it, you are wrong. Just log on to Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/April_Fools_Day_2007) and you will have a much longer list of all the hoaxes that were carried out on 1 April.

There are also some genuine pieces of news that were mistaken as 1 April pranks. The price of fun.
