Eureka:Children's bookstorebook
It is a bookshop for kids with a corner rack dedicated to adults. “We put this rack up only because parents who came in with children wanted a selection to browse through," says Swati, part owner of Eureka, a stand alone 10 by 20 ft store in Greater Kailash-II in New Delhi. The core clientele, aged two to 17, dictates what the store stocks. “We felt that reading habits in children were on the rise, but there was no niche store that catered to them and that’s how Eureka was born in 2004 after we had successfully managed a few kids-only bookstalls at exhibitions," says M. Venkatesh, co-owner of this store tucked between Pizza Hut and Green Chick Chop. What sets Eureka apart is that it often imports books that are not found on Indian bookshelves, such as Eric Carle’s latest, The 10 Little Rubber Ducks. The store’s big spenders lie in the age group of nine to 14, “some of who end up spending their monthly allowance here".
Retail tip: The store offers a 15% discount on books that are purchased as return gifts for birthday parties.
