Want to own a scooter in Hellrot Orange or Candy Apple Red? Late last year, TVS Motor Company launched the Scooty Pep Plus (see above) in 99 shades. You can go to any TVS showroom in 35 cities, pick a shade and the company promises to source it within 10 days, at an extra charge of Rs999-1,899. Asha Gopinath, a lecturer from Bangalore, recently bought one in Berry Purple and says: “Now, my friends want to change the colour of their bikes.”
Hero Honda Motors’ Pleasure scooters have shades such as Tahitian Blue Metallic. Kinetic Motor Company says that 90% of sales for its Blaze scooters come from the shade Ferrari Red. “As India is getting younger, the two-wheelers segment has become a personalized product used to make a statement,” says Ajinkya Firodia, VP, sales and marketing, Kinetic Motor Company Ltd.
