Curious Tom: Manjrekar wanted to learn more about the game.
Sanjay Manjrekar would go to any length to learn more about the game. At the Worli office of Nirlon, the team that had some of India’s best players on its rolls, Manjrekar sought an appointment with Sunil Gavaskar. He spoke for a couple of minutes before asking a nervous question, “Sir, when you faced the fast bowlers from the West Indies, did you ever see the ball?”
Sunil had scored 13 of his 34 centuries against them!
As told by Mudar Patherya in Caught and Told: Humorous Cricketing Anecdotes by Sandeep Patil and Clayton Murzello, Roli Books, 2007.
