The new show on Discovery channel, Discovery Atlas, was launched on Republic Day at 9pm with the episode India Revealed. The show is a presentation of the portrait of some of the world’s nations seen through the lives of the people living there. The focus is on great visuals combined with great stories to tell the tales of these countries and what they stand for. Each episode is two hours long and seeks to explore the history, civilization, geography, industry, technology and people of each country. Seven countries have been covered, resulting in seven episodes that will be aired from 26 January to 8 March, 2008. The countries featured are India, China, Italy, Australia, Brazil, Mexico and South Africa. Each episodes will be narrated by a celebrity. The episode on India is narrated by Mira Nair. This promises to be not only an educational journey, but also an entertaining one.

The show airs on Discovery channel every Saturday, at 9pm. The next episode is Brazil Revealed.

Also look out for NDTV Lumière, a channel dedicated entirely to cinema from across the world. First it was UTV, in collaboration with the US-based Palador Pictures, that talked about bringing world cinema to our drawing rooms although that never took off. Now, NDTV Imagine has announced the launch of NDTV Lumière, its second initiative. The films on NDTV Lumière will include popular and critically acclaimed films from award winning festivals such as Cannes, Berlin, Sundance, Toronto, Pusan, Locarno and Venice, and the channel is scheduled to be operational by April 2008.

The channel has tied up with the founder of Adlabs, Manmohan Shetty, and festival jurist and film producer Sunil Doshi (producer of films such as Mixed Doubles and Bheja Fry) for this initiative.
