So you thought only players went on sports tours? Not with two mega events coming up. The ICC World T20 opens on 30 April in the West Indies, and travel companies are already firming up their plans to take you there. Cox and Kings has three packages for Barbados and St Lucia covering 6-19 May, when India is projected to play matches against Australia, West Indies and Sri Lanka, and if they are good enough, the finals as well.
Opt for Super 8 Beat the Heat, a three-night/ four-day package (6-9 May), to watch India take on Australia in Bridgetown, Barbados, on 7 May. The package costs Rs99,999 per person. On 9 and 11 May, India is tipped to play West Indies in Bridgetown and Sri Lanka in Gros Islet, St Lucia, respectively. Watch both matches as part of the five night/six-day Super 8 Survival package (8-13 May) tagged at Rs1.25 lakh per person. And there’s no saying if India will go the distance, but the semi-finals and the finals are yours to see if you sign up for the Route 2 Finals eight-night/nine-day package (11-19 May), priced at Rs1.30 lakh per person.
All packages include return airfares, accommodation, breakfast, round-trip coach transfers between the hotel and stadium and cricket match tickets as per the itinerary. To book a trip or for details, call 1800221235, 18002090400, 9867565599, or SMS T20 to 5757513 or visit www.coxandkings.com.
Play time: With the World Cup in June, football fever is already high in Johannesburg. Denis Farrell/AP
Cricket may be India’s passion, but the whole world follows football. And at least some will be dribbling their way to South Africa, which hosts the Fifa World Cup, beginning 11 June. Fifa partner Emirates Airlines has customized packages for fans departing from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Maldives, which start from $3,953 (around Rs1.80 lakh). Choose from return airfares on first, business or economy classes, three base towns—Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban—and a range of accommodation, from the budget StayEasy Pretoria (www.southernsun.com) to the five-star Sun City Hotel (www.sun-city-south-africa.com). The package also includes transfers to/from the airport, hotel or stadium via bus or plane besides, of course, match tickets. In India, contact SOTC Sports to buy an Emirates package.
