Dali comes to Delhi, a clutch of hip new hotels, the world’s finest wool. From products which promote social causes to charity auctions, our primer on the latest in luxury has a little something for everyone
MAC
MAC Viva Glam Passionately Red lip palettes
What
MAC Viva Glam Passionately Red lip palettes featuring three shades in two tones (warm and cool).
Retail price
Rs1,500 each, available at MAC stores countrywide.
Donation
100% of the proceeds are given to the MAC AIDS Fund, which funds organizations around the world that help prevent the spread of HIV, in addition to pushing for awareness and prevention.
Feel-good factor
High. MAC remains one of the few companies that donates 100% of all proceeds by underwriting production costs.
BVLGARI
What
Bulgari silver ring
Bulgari silver ring engraved with Save the Children logo.
Retail price
$290 (around Rs14,000), available through Bulgari in Mumbai and Delhi.
Donation
$60, or around 20%, is donated to Save the Children, a global NGO committed to educating eight million children in conflict areas by 2010.
Feel-good factor
Medium. 20% doesn’t seem like a high number, but then again, Bulgari has already donated €1 million from its own pocket.
JAEGER-LECOULTRE
What
Two Jaeger-LeCoultre limited edition watches: the Master Compressor Extreme Lab made of carbon fibre and titanium (and worn by actor Leonardo DiCaprio), and a platinum crafted Reverso Gyrotourbillon 2.
Master Compressor Extreme Lab
Retail price
$300,000 and $400,000, respectively, available through Jaeger-LeCoultre for worldwide delivery.
Donation
100% of the proceeds will go to the Leonardo DiCaprio Fund at the California Community Foundation, which fosters awareness of environmental issues such as renewable energy and global warming, and animal welfare.
Feel-good factor
Em, depends. Do you live in California? Most of the initiatives are US-based, though it does claim to fund programmes around the world. If you consider yourself a global eco-warrior, then buy away.
CARTIER
What
Cartier Love Charity bracelet, with interlocking mini rose and white gold love bracelets on a silk cord.
Retail price
$995, available at the Cartier boutique in New Delhi.
Donation
$200, or around 20% of every bracelet sold, is donated to various charities around the world from an orphans’ foundation in Qatar to one for malnourished children in Myanmar.
Feel-good factor
High. Sales of the bracelet have already raised $2.24 million for 16 global charities in the past two years plus, given the steep price tag, anything less than 20% would be miserly.
HERMES
What
Hermes silk scarf, called Offrandes d’un Jour, depicting the elaborate floral designs created during harvest season in Kerala.
Retail price
Rs17,500; available at the Hermes store, New Delhi.
Donation
This year, an undisclosed amount will be donated to CRY for the support of children’s education.
Feel-good factor
Since the company won’t say how much (their policy, according to the store representative, is to be “discreet”), it’s hard to say. However, the prettiness of the scarf alone merits a medium rating.
