The weather’s turning and the heat is beginning to distort our fashion radar. So, here’s a quick style check for the upcoming season. It’s time to shimmer in white or black.Yes, the biggest colours are black and white, and the way they work best is with shimmer and lots of shine.
Wear a lycra dress encrusted with chains by John Galliano for Dior or Burberry’s absolutely fantastic metallic canvas dress embroidered with silver pieces, both for a casual walk on the beach or to the chicest cocktail party in town. Or throw on a little chic piqué cotton jacket by Escada over a black or white bikini to make your swimwear extra glam when you’re hanging out by the pool.
Got it yet? Black or white, muslin or satin, cotton or lamé—add a hint of crystal, a splash of shine and you’re good to go. Gone are the days when glamour only worked in the evenings. Whoever said that couture is dead, probably just doesn’t have any. And for those of you who don’t, there is some good news—add it on! Don’t be afraid to shine during the day. You could add a futuristic-looking chunky metal bracelet (my favourite is the donut silver bracelet by Tiffany & Co.) to a plain dress or wear Swarovski-endowed shoes with a chiffon cover-up. A little sand on the crystals will only add to your chic meter.
And while spring’s just creeping up, here’s a product that will work beautifully—Chanel’s Lumiere D’Atifices eye shadow. This is the cutest beauty box I’ve seen in a long time, it actually sparkles just like real sequins. In three shades of silver, pearly white and gold, this is the perfect blend of haute couture and beauty. This one, however, should be used sparingly and preferably only at night.
So glam on fast: big earrings, chunky bracelets, diamond sheets, shiny pants—mix up the soft and languid feel of being on the brink of summer with the energy and sparkle that only spring can provoke, and walk with an air of confidence. This look, with all its style, does require that.
