Sony has unveiled its new line-up of television and a home entertainment projector at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2017 in Las Vegas, which indicates the company’s continued focus on the 4K ecosystem. The biggest highlight is the XBR-A1E Bravia 4K OLED TV, which will be the company’s flagship TV for this year. For long, it was expected that Sony will make a shift in the display technology it uses for televisions meant for homes. Incidentally, OLED is a display technology that rival LG has focused on extensively over the past few months. This move will heat up the competition.

The big advantages of OLED include deep black levels which no rival display tech can reproduce, rich and accurate colour, dynamic contrast, smoother visuals and better viewing angles.

The XBR-A1E has support for Dolby Vision HDR and the 4K HDR X1 image processor. This extremely thin TV required the table stand to fold out at the back, something like how bedside photo-frames tend to. The new Bravia also runs Google’s Android TV platform, which makes this perhaps the most versatile smart TV in terms of apps and games that you can download.

The A1E Bravia series will be available in 55-inch, 65-inch, and 77-inch screen sizes, but Sony has not yet confirmed the pricing details.

The other 4K product that Sony has shown at CES is the VPL-VZ1000ES projector. This is essentially an ultra-short throw projector, and has a gorgeous metal design in matte black colour. However, this costs a lot of money—$25,000 to be precise. This projector can reproduce a 100-inch image from as little as six inches away from a wall, supports HDR and packs in 2,500 lumens. This is 40% smaller than the VPL-GTZ1 model it succeeds.

Sony UBP-X800

The third product, and perhaps much more affordable than the $25,000 projector, is a Blu-ray player called UBP-X800. It has 4K and HDR support, and Sony says this is their “first" UHD player for consumers. The X800 will play UHD Blu-ray discs, stream 4K content if you have subscription to the necessary services such as Netflix as well as HDR content. In terms of audio, it supports playback up to 192kHz/24-bit and DSD 11.2MHz1 audio streams. There has integrated Bluetooth as well for external accessories. The price is yet to be announced, but it should be priced for the mass market, and will be rolled out in some countries starting spring this year.
