During the Lahore Test of 1989-90, also Javed Miandad’s 100th, the Pakistani great, batting in his 90s, should have been concentrating on getting his century when he broke into a Hindi film song. He went on to score 145. In all my tours, I have never seen a player singing while batting in a Test match, that too while approaching a landmark. Sanjay Manjrekar was fielding at short-leg, and Javed asked us which song we would like to hear next. It was hilarious, but also incredible.
As told by Kiran More (edited excerpts) from Caught and Told: Humorous Cricketing Anecdotesby Sandeep Patil and Clayton Murzello, Roli Books, 2007.
