I am required to wear a pair of formal black shoes to work. I don’t like classic pumps. Are there alternatives?
There are a lot of alternatives to classic pumps. I think it’s best to wear any option with closed toes, be it a narrow, pointed front or more rounded. If you don’t like your feet being boxed in, you can choose sling-backs, which will leave the back of your feet bare. Open toes work well for evenings or functions, but if you must wear open-toed shoes to work, please ensure that you have a pedicure every other week.
Are jeans acceptable for Friday dressing?
In today’s competitive environment, Friday dressing doesn’t exist. It faded with the dotcom era. When you’re working 24/7, there’s no reason to look casual or laid back. The only exception can be an office party. As for jeans, they work in certain industries like entertainment, when paired with a jacket. They’re not for people with business-oriented jobs.
Can I get away by wearing a tie and shirt in the same colour?
This trend is passé. No one but film stars can get away with it, because we tend to forgive them their fashion faux pas. Besides, this combination gives a very formal evening look. If you don’t have the looks of a Shah Rukh Khan, you will have to pick a tie that is a few tones or shades darker, or one with a self pattern.
