PICK THEM LIKE A PRO
Kirron Kher has lost count of the saris she owns and she’s rarely seen in public repeating one. She designs many of her saris and has them customized to her preferred length of six metres. The sari lover gives us her five staples:
u Kanjivaram saris bought from Sundari Silks, Chennai, and L’affaire in New Delhi
u Vegetable-dyed, printed, woven ‘tussar’ sari from Weaver’s Studio in Kolkata
u Banarsi silk from Banaras and Indian Textiles at Taj Mahal Palace and Tower, Mumbai
u Kota pure ‘zari’, cotton saris from Kota and Vidhi Creations, New Delhi
u Printed French chiffon fabrics from abroad, dyed and embellished with antique pure zari borders
BLOUSE BASICS
Puneet Nanda, fashion designer for Satya Paul, on the sari blouses every woman should have:
u A corset blouse
u A strapless blouse
u A backless, tie-up ‘choli’
u A buff, skin-coloured blouse that can be matched with any sari, and black, white and red blouses
u A halter blouse
Ready-made sari blouses at Melange, Kemps Corner, Mumbai, Rs5,000 onwards; Satya Paul stores in Bangalore, Kolkata, Mumbai and New Delhi, Rs5,000 onwards, and Kaysons Sarees, Mumbai, Rs3,000 onwards
