8PEN
It’s one of the holy grails of our times. The problem of fast typing on a touch-screen phone. The approaches to the problem are many—from Swype’s sweeping gestures to complex auto-correction mechanisms—but none quite approach the speed and accuracy of a good old keyboard. 8pen challenges that assertion. It’s a typing system that mimics human handwriting—using gestures centred around a central “wheel” of on-screen characters. You move your finger over four “sectors” that consist of an arrangement of letters. Sounds confusing, but do not fret—the app comes with a handy tutorial. 8pen has a steep learning curve, but is nonetheless an intriguing new way of typing on your smartphone. 8pen is available in the Android Market for approx. Rs70. For more information, log on to www.the8pen.com
