• Get a great mix of old stalwarts and edgier, fresher talent at Ensemble, India’s first multi-designer store. Sometimes you need to fall back on the drama that Tarun Tahiliani and Rohit Bal provide, but when your wardrobe needs a shot of adrenalin, turn to designers such as Gaurav Gupta and Morche by Amit Agarwal for glamour with a very New Age sensibility. At Ensemble stores in Mumbai and New Delhi; prices start at Rs5,000.

• Kimaya is where Bollywood goes when it needs a quick designer fix, so you know there’s plenty of glitter and glamour. Currently, Delhi’s Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna of Cue get our vote for their stunning short dresses (See: picture)in a murky grey palette injected with just the right amount of shine—very urban, very sexy. Gauri and Nainika’s softer princess dresses are also on the racks. If you want the necessary add-ons, Italian designer René Caovilla’s shoes and handbags (Rs40,000 up) are available at Mumbai’s Kemp’s Corner store. At Kimaya stores in Mumbai and New Delhi; prices start at Rs5,000 for gowns.
• Zoya, at Bandra, Mumbai, is the place for free spirits to get glam, with designers such as Wendell Rodricks, Savio Jon and Gaurav Gupta. Try on Gupta’s black pleated empire-line dress with a satin waistband (Rs12,350), or Jon’s slim, layered black georgette number with shiny rings around the neck as the only embellishment (Rs15,000). Of course, if you want to make a statement, Rodricks’ easy, laid-back georgette dresses are always an option.
