Mumbai: His divisive status as a musician has earned a moniker for his die-hard fans, a tribe that can apparently earn their cred only if they stand in queues for his concerts.

If the organizers are to be believed, the number of Beliebers in India is large enough to have his first ever concert here sold out in less than 24 hours. Even before tickets go on sale from 22 February, they have been opened for a “pre-registration" at www.bookmyshow.com, said the official press release on Wednesday.

The show will take place on May 10 at the D.Y. Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

Bieber is probably YouTube’s biggest import to the world of music. He was signed at the age of 13 by his first music label when a marketing executive accidentally clicked on one of his “cover" videos of preexisting songs of other artistes. With his pop and R&B heavy chartbusters such as Beauty and the Beat, Baby and Sorry, Bieber has been a constant feature in the Billboard Hot 100.

The announcement comes close on the heels of the Coldplay concert in Mumbai in November last year. Arjun Jain, director of the organizers White Fox India, said it was a result of a six-month-long negotiation. “This tour is one of the most successful in the world at the moment and will further enhance India’s current cultural repertoire. It will place India on the global map and open up avenues for other artists of similar stature who may want to consider India as part of their touring roster," he said.

The 56,000 seat arena is the perfect venue for Bieber’s ongoing Purpose World Tour that involves light-shows, fireworks and many live acts including the pop superstar emerging from beneath the stage in a cube box.

It will feature songs from the 22-year-old singer-songwriter’s latest album Purpose. The latter had also won multiple Grammy nominations.

Tickets are priced from Rs4,000.
