OnePlus smartphone exchange offer: what it means

Getting invites to buy the OnePlus 2 or the OnePlus X may have just become a tad easier. And the scheme also takes your old phone off your hands

Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus and End-of-Life product management portal ReGlobe.in have tied up to launch smartphone buyback and exchange programs in India. OnePlus has currently extended these two schemes on the OnePlus One ( 19,999; 64GB), OnePlus 2 ( 24,999; 64GB) and OnePlus X ( 16,999; Onyx version) smartphones. Out of the three phones, the OnePlus 2 and the OnePlus X can be purchased exclusively on Amazon.in but only if you have an invite, for which you need to register on OnePlus.net.

The OnePlus-ReGlobe partnership puts two types of offers on the table. The first real highlight is the fact that you will get an assured invite to buy the phone, something that may otherwise entail a long waiting period. Second, you give your old phone in exchange, and recover some monetary value from that too.

The first is the Buy First, Sell Later Option. Here, a customer opts to buy the new OnePlus smartphone first and ReGlobe’s customer service will share the invite code for buying the phone on Amazon.in. At the same time, the user has to share the details of the old smartphone they will be giving in exchange. Once the invite is activated and the order is processed, ReGlobe will get the free extended warranty and insurance pack as well as an Amazon Gift Coupon of the same value as the smartphone being given in exchange.

The extended insurance and warranty packs are different for the two phones. The OnePlus 2 buyers will get the B2X Service pack, which otherwise costs 999, while the OnePlus X buyers will get the B2X OnGuard Plus pack which otherwise costs 699.

The second scheme is the Sell First, Buy Next Option. Here, a customer can get in touch with ReGlobe and get an exchange price valuation for their current smartphone. Once the price has been agreed upon, and the transaction is complete, ReGlobe will share an invite for the OnePlus smartphone as well as an Amazon Gift Coupon of exchange value of the older smartphone. This way, the user can avail the discount at the time of paying for the new OnePlus smartphone.

ReGlobe, on its part, has included a massive range of smartphones across brands that are eligible for the exchange scheme. The value will depend on criteria such as whether the phone you want to exchange switches on or not, whether the screen is broken or not, whether the battery is faulty or not and the external wear and tear. Once you have filled in the responses to all these queries, you will be given an approximate value for the phone.

While these two schemes do make it easier to get your hands on an invite to buy the 2 or the X, we find the Sell First, Buy Next Option to be a better bet between the two—simply because you get the voucher for the exchanged smartphone’s value before you purchase the new phone, and can avail the discount straightaway.
