Size does matter. At least when it comes to this year’s most fashionable home trend: the large vase. Either as thick, tall floor vases or towering, thin table vases, the old adage holds true: the bigger, the better. And don’t worry about struggling to rotate water in and out of these behemoths. High-quality silk artificial flowers can take the place of floral arrangements. Just ask the store to insert a ‘shelf’ in the vase for all the appearance of height without any of the depth.

Earth | This glossy vase opts for a subdued colour, but makes up for it in size. Paired with artificial magenta flowers, the round body of the vase reflects the flowers’ colours in its brown sheen. Available at Paradox Pink, Raghuvanshi Mill Compound, Mumbai, Rs42,000, purple stems, Rs2,000.

Fire | Delightfully bright, the orange vase has no problem making a bold look-at-me statement. Created by the Belgian company Dolce Villa, the vase comes in two sizes, 3ft and 2.5ft. Add a bit of colour to a monochromatic world. Available at fcml, GK-II, M Block Market, New Delhi, Rs13,500.

Wood | This towering Palm vase (topping in at 6ft), makes an impressive statement as a stand-alone sculpture even without greenery. For those gifted with a green thumb, a palm can be planted in the deep vase or a shelf can be inserted to hold smaller ferns and flowers. Available at Good Earth, Raghuvanshi Mill Compound, Mumbai, Rs28,000.

Air | These thin, delicate Amor bottles shoot up into the air like thin wine bottles stretched to the point of breaking. The small necks can hold a flower or two, or the pieces can stand alone. Opt for the solid gold for a straightforward look, or try a decorative white icing wrapped around the bodies for a luxurious look. Available at Paradox Pink at Raghuvanshi Mill Compound, Mumbai, Tall Rs27,000, Medium Rs25,000, Small Rs20,000.

Water |Brooklyn-based Michael Anchin creates songs in glass with his glass-blowing technique. Though most of his pieces are smaller, his line of large vases soar 3ft with delicate, thin, reed-like necks, best as a showcase for one perfect flower. Vases can be customized in shape, size and colour. Available at www.michaelanchin.com, around Rs13,200.
