Every winter, as the temperature begins to dip, migratory birds start flocking to the city. Parvish Pandya, an associate professor in zoology at Bhavan’s College in Andheri and a consultant with the Sanctuary Asia wildlife magazine, will conduct an introductory course on birdwatching at the Sanjay Gandhi National Park. An audio-video by Pandya, Bird Identification & The Art of Birdwatching, will also be screened.

From Irani cafés to the Regal cinema hall—all find place in the watercolour prints on display at Bengaluru-based cartoonist Paul Fernandes’ new gallery aPaulogy, which will open on Monday. The Mumbai gallery will have 100 watercolour prints inspired by the time he spent in the city, in the late 1970s and early 1980s, as well as some images of Goa, Mangaluru and Bengaluru.

Written by Girish Karnad and directed by Samkutty Pattomkary, Tughlaq is a 13-scene Kannada play about the tumultuous rule of Muhammad bin Tughlaq. Tughlaq is known for the grand vision of a unified India and reformist ideas that were ahead of his time, but his reign was an abject failure. Though it’s a play that delves into history, the story is fairly relevant to the politics of any era. 2 hours.

The cine screening of Nandita Das and Divya Jagdale’s play, Between The Lines, stars Das and Subodh Maskara. A contemporary play set in urban India, where educated and affluent couples get trapped between the dilemmas of modernity and tradition, Between The Lines focuses on the lives of Maya and Shekhar, both lawyers. They end up on the opposite sides of a criminal trial and find that this affects their personal and professional lives.

Set in north Delhi and Gurgaon, the title is inspired by T.S. Eliot’s poem Four Quartets.

Georges Gasté in India: 1905-1910

Alliance Française and the French embassy are presenting a travelling exhibition of 34 photographic works, as well as colour reproductions of paintings and a few letters written by French Orientalist and painter Georges Gasté. Taken during his sojourn in India in the early 20th century, the photographs depict life in Indian towns—from Agra to Madurai. The exhibition, which opened in New Delhi on Thursday, will travel to eight cities between December and March.

This year’s Dastkar focuses on, and is dedicated to, the crafts of Kashmir, in view of the recent floods that brought tragedy to the valley. There is also an exhibition of paintings depicting stories from the Panchatantra, titled ‘Painted Fables: Panchatantra Chitra’ .

TENT Little Cinema International Fest

TENT, a non-profit that aims to create an interactive space to foster experiments with moving image,s is organizing TENT Little Cinema International Fest in association with Goethe-Institut and Studio 21. The festival will screen feature films and docu-fiction. Ghasiram Kotwal, directed by K. Hariharan, Mani Kaul, Saeed Mirza and Kamal Swaroop, will open the festival at 6.30pm.
