Botox
Botox or botulinum toxin type A is an injection which blocks the nerve impulses and weakens the muscle on which it is administered, forcing it to relax. It’s commonly used for facial wrinkles and is especially effective for dynamic expression lines—forehead, frown lines, crow’s feet, chin dimpling or a drooping smile. The effect of each injection lasts about six-seven months. It prevents further appearance of lines as well.
Time taken: A few minutes to half an hour, depending on the number of injections
You pay: Correction of eyelid wrinkles can cost you Rs 5,000-15,000. Retouch after six months.
Fillers
Quick fix: Lunch-time procedures are more common.
With age, the face loses volume and shrinks. Fillers are hyaluronic acid-based injections that add volume or fill up your face. They are generally used on laugh lines, for lip or cheek augmentation or to fill up the depression under the eyes that cause dark circles with age. They are effective for about a year on moving muscles like the lips and about 14 months on something like laugh lines.
Time taken: 10-15 minutes
You pay: Rs 15,000-25,000 for an area. Retouch after a year.
Fractional laser rejuvenation
As the name suggests, this uses laser beams to improve the quality of the skin. It is best for diminishing signs of ageing such as age spots, wrinkles and skin discolouration.
Time taken: 45-60 minutes
You pay: Rs 10,000-20,000 per sitting. You need at least two sittings before you see a change.
Chemical peels
This is a mask of mild glycolic acid-based chemical that aims
to remove the outer layer of your face to reveal the inner, younger skin. It softens skin texture, decreases scarring and removes blemishes. There are many types of chemical peels and different ones are effective for skin pigmentation, acne control and ageing control.
Time taken: 10-15 minutes
You pay: Rs 2,000-4,000 per session. The frequency will depend on your skin and the problem you are treating.
Laser hair removal
Laser is an extremely focused beam of light that burns hair follicles, preventing their growth for long periods. It is most commonly used to remove unwanted hair from the chest, back or upper cheek area, to give your beard shape. You would require four-six sessions for a single body part, since each session is able to remove only about 20% of hair. Lasers are not so effective on grey or white hair, so consult your doctor before going for the treatment.
Time taken: 30-45 minutes per session
You pay: Rs 12,000-25,000. The charges depend on the thickness of growth and the area.
