Golfer Keegan Bradley, who lost a three-way playoff for last week’s (16-19 February) Northern Trust Open title at Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles, US, had much more to worry about than that loss after he saw the telecast of the match.

What had sparked widespread criticism on Twitter was not his strokeplay but his on-course expectorating.

Once he saw for himself how much he spat during his pre-shot routine, he issued a public apology on his Twitter account. “To be honest with you, I really had no idea I was doing it,” said Bradley, “and I feel bad. I’m going to truly work on it. It might take some time but I will do my best to stop.”
