Photographing Imagined Landscapes: The Switzerland of India

Artist Christine Rogers tells a pictorial story of north Indian hill stations from Darjeeling to Dalhousie, a region that has been associated with romance, love songs and Bollywood cinema. Rogers’ images document “India’s Switzerland", a landscape that has captured the imagination of the Indian middle class via the tourist industry.

This Kannada play, written and directed by Prakash Belawadi, will deconstruct and rationalize the historical backdrops of colonialism and Mughal rule. Robert Clive was the officer credited with securing India for the British crown. This is a story not of conquest and honour, but of corruption and dishonour. 2 hours.

Ben Sollee is an American cellist, singer-songwriter and composer. His 2008 debut album, Learning to Bend, made the US’ National Public Radio’s Morning Edition name him one of the “Top Ten Great Unknown Artists" of that year. Sollee recently released his fourth album, Half-Made Man, which continues to explore his signature innovative playing style—a unique technique of creating folk, bluegrass, jazz and R&B strains from cello, politically tinged songwriting and intricate music arrangements.
