Hidden away in a corner of the MGF Metropolitan mall in Saket, Lighthouse 13 is a new “world food" restaurant and rooftop lounge; the two are separated by a domed walkway filled with fans that spit out misty water. The fine-dining section is indoors, with seating for around 40 people. The rooftop was cool and comfortable when we went in the evening, but even the mist-blower fans may not be able to salvage the place come peak summer.

Lighthouse 13 is a great place to grab a drink and some interesting starters. The cocktail selection is wide, and while the Lady Hunt (Rs310) was more ginger fizz than the wine-based drink it claimed to be, the signature Lighthouse Delight with spiced rum was excellent—sharp and tangy without being overwhelming. The baked spinach and ricotta tart with Parmesan (Rs275) was rich and creamy, and the mussels in provencale sauce (a bowl of 14 for Rs725) were good.

We also ordered Spatchcock Baby Chicken (Rs425) which was, well, unremarkable. The chicken was a tad too rubbery and boney. The mashed potatoes, which were excellent, were the only saving grace.

The vegetarian options are sorely limited. On the dinner menu, apart from the regular shahi paneers and dal frys, one’s choices are restricted to a spicy yet indistinctly ordinary Stir (Rs225), which is tofu with mushrooms and bamboo shoots cooked in “vegetarian" oyster sauce, and an asparagus-based risotto (Rs525).

The signature dessert, the Baba-au-Rhum, a brioche with currants and dark rum, had the constitution and taste of pineapple jam, which I loved. The music at Lighthouse 13 (“world music", of course) was eclectic and unobtrusive—covering everything from straight-up electronica straight out of a Jalebee Cartel album to a trip-hoppy cover of Bill Withers’ Ain’t No Sunshine. The service was quick and attentive, but then again, we were the only ones in the restaurant at the time.

The steaks start from Rs845, and the cocktails from Rs300. A separate tapas menu lists cheaper munchies, and has a large Mediterranean platter for Rs800. A meal for two including starters, a main course, drinks and dessert will set you back by around Rs2,500.
