Tech Buzz: 3 alternatives to the iPhone 7

The iPhone 7 will be in India on 7 October. However, if you want to look at other options, these three are worth considering

HTC 10

The iPhone 7 will be in India on 7 October, and everyone is already talking about how the upgrades from the previous iteration are minor and the absence of a headphone jack is criminal. If you are disappointed in the new iPhone and want to look at other options, these three phones are worth considering.

Google Pixel, price to be announced

Google is expected to release its new phones, the Pixel and Pixel XL, built by HTC, in early October. The phones will come with the latest Android operating system, Android 7.0 Nougat, which will let you download apps quicker, multitask better, get smarter notifications and extend battery life. The Pixel is also rumoured to have Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821, one of the most powerful processors around, so it could be one of the fastest phones on the market. It is rumoured that it will have the same camera on the front and the back.

LG G5

LG G5, Rs40,000

It was one of the first few phones to have dual cameras on the back, which Apple is talking up as one of the big upgrades to the iPhone. The G5 has a wide-angle lens and a super wide-angle lens, and you can switch between the two. One thing that makes LG phones stand out is that they have replaceable batteries, which is preferred by many. The G5 is a modular phone, which means you can attach external accessories, such as a 3D camera, a bigger battery or a digital-to-audio converter, to the bottom.

HTC 10, Rs45,000

HTC’s UltraPixel technology can’t compete with Apple’s phone cameras, but if you are a music fan, you’ll enjoy the audio quality and top-notch speakers. The HTC 10 is famous for having a more balanced sound than most other smartphones. And, yes, it comes with a headphone jack. The 10 is a beautifully designed phone and is known to charge quickly, always useful if you travel a lot. What also stands out is the customized operating system, HTC Sense 8, a modified version of Android 6.0Marshmallow. Sense 8 provides the Android experience people are used to, but also adds several new features, such as a social news aggregator called Blinkfeed.
