Kochi: The biennial India International Seafood Show (IISS-2008) will be held in Kochi, the hub of Indian marine products industry, from 8 - 10 February.
The Show aims to bring together Indian seafood processors and overseas buyers on a single platform for exploring opportunities that would be of mutual benefit, according to G Mohan Kumar, chairman, Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA).
The event, besides Indian participants, will host several overseas companies including Zhoushan Longyuan Sifang Fishmeal Co. Limited,China, Marel Food System, Iceland, Ishida India Pvt Ltd, Japan, INFOFISH, Malaysia, Dantech Food Systems Pvt Ltd, Singapore, and Prayon S A, Spain, among others.
The previous editions of the IISS, which made its debut in 1973, had attracted a large number of buyers from abroad.
The coming edition of IISS would deliberate on several crucial issues facing the sector including appreciation of the Rupee, acute shortage of raw material, adverse market situations, and stringent quality stipulations by developed countries
The hosting of the event at a time when the Indian seafood industry has touched an all time high with exports of $1.86 billion, assumes special significance.
The show will also witness the presentation of the MPEDA awards for the best export performance for the year 2006-07
