New Delhi: India’s cotton output, the second biggest in the world, may be less than the forecast last month as dry weather in the main growing regions delayed planting.
Production may total 31.5 million bales in the year starting October, 10% less than 35 million bales estimated in June, Subhash Grover, managing director of Cotton Corp. of India Ltd, the nation’s biggest buyer of the commodity, said. A bale weighs 170kg.
Monsoon rains were 33% below average in third week of July, the weather bureau said on Thursday.
