Asia’s cosmetics market is a lucrative one, but each country has a different dynamic in terms of categories and even retailing formats. In India, mass market retailers dominate the market, with hair salons coming next. In contrast to other countries, the direct sales channel has a very low share. In categories, face care takes maximum share in all countries, followed by hair care, but in India, hair colour and fragrances have a higher share than in other countries. India’s market is among the fastest growing, with a growth rate of 16.5% in 2010 against 8.5% for the Asean region and 8.1% for China.
