Sensex closes up 265 points as US Fed holds rate

BSE Sensex soars 265.71 points, or 0.93%, to end at 28,773.13; Nifty surges 90.30 points, or 1.03%, to close at 8,867.45

3:50pm: BSE Sensex soars 265.71 points, or 0.93%, to end at 28,773.13; Nifty surges 90.30 points, or 1.03%, to close at 8,867.45.

2:28pm: BSE Sensex rises 249.29 points, or 0.87%, to 28,756.71, while the Nifty gains 83.35 points, or 0.95%, to 8,860.50.

2:15pm: Financial Technologies India Ltd rises 8% to Rs.88. The stock is up 17.6% in last one month and so far this year it fell 28.5%. The company has informed BSE that the Company has received a provisional attachment Order from the Directorate of Enforcement, Mumbai, attaching Mutual funds amounting to Rs.306.70 crores. The Company is taking appropriate steps in consultation with the legal Counsel of the Company.

2:00pm: Multi Commodity Exchange Of India Ltd rises 1.5% to Rs.1,050. The stock gained for the seventh consecutive sessions and rose 13.5% in this period. So far this year it gained 12.5%.

1:30pm: Lincoln Pharmaceuticals Ltd rises 3.2% to Rs.239.50 after the company said in a notice to BSE that it has developed New NDDS formulation Ondansetron Oral Spray (Domi Up) first time in India.

1:10pm: BSE Sensex rises 229.93 points, or 0.81%, to 28,737.35, while the Nifty gains 74.50 points, or 0.85%, to 8,851.65.

1:00pm: Shares of Indian Oil Corp. rises as much as 1.1% and Gail (India) Ltd gains up to 1.76% after the companies agreed to buy a combined 49% stake in a liquefied natural gas terminal being built in Odisha.

12:45pm: Syngene International Ltd rises 5.3% to Rs.506.70. The company said in a notice to BSE that it closed deal with Strand Life Sciences to Purchase Systems Biology and Pharma Services Practice.

12:30pm: Larsen & Toubro Ltd rises 1.5% to Rs.1,493.90. The company said in a notice to BSE that it won Vietnam Border guard contract worth $99.7 million to design and build high speed patrol vessels in India. The company will transfer design and technology and supply equipment and material for for building follow on vessel at Vietnam Shipyard.

12:15pm: Tata Steel Ltd rises 1.2% to Rs.373.85. The stock gained for fourth consecutive sessions and up 5.7% in this period. So far this year it gained 44.2%.

12:00pm: Maruti Suzuki India Ltd rises 2.3% to Rs.5,630. The stock gained over 15% in last one month and so far this year it gained 21.1%.

11:45am: BSE Sensex rises 205.22 points, or 0.72%, to 28,712.64, while the Nifty gains 67.55 points, or 0.77%, to 8,844.70.

11:35am: Jyoti Structures Ltd rises 2% to Rs.13.40. Bondholders of Jyoti Structures are looking to force a bankruptcy on the company if it is unable to seal a deal with the Dubaibased Amin Group in the next few weeks.

11:25am: IT stocks are trading lower. TCS falls 0.5%, Wipro Ltd 0.4%, Infosys Ltd 0.4%.

11:15am: Federal Bank rises 3.3% to Rs.73.35 after huge block deal. Around 10.14 million shares of the bank changed hands in five block deal. However buyers and seller details were not known, according to Bloomberg report.

11:05am: Auto stocks are trading higher. Hero MotoCorp Ltd rises 2.8%, Maruti Suzuki India rises 1.8%, Bajaj Auto 1.8%, Tata Motors Ltd rises 1.1%, EIcher Motors Ltd rises 1.4%, TVS Motors Co Ltd rises 3.3%.

10:55am: Metal stocks are trading higher. Hindalco Industries Ltd rises 3.4%, Steel Authority Of India 1.7%, Tata Steel Ltd rises 1.6%, Vedanta Ltd rises 1.5%, Jindal Steel and Power Ltd rises 1.2%, Hindustan Zinc 1%, JSW Steel 1%.

10:45am: ABG Shipyard Ltd rises 3% to Rs.30.95. Lenders to ABG Cement Ltd are in the process of finalizing a debt restructuring package for the company, after a recent management change. Global commodities platform SIMEC Group bought a 51% stake in ABG Cement for Rs.525 crore and initiated a management change in the company earlier this financial year, Mint reported.

10:35am: Reliance Defence and Engineering Ltd rises 3% to Rs.60.45 after the company said in a notice to BSE that it is the lowest bidder to build 14 fast petrol vessel for Indian coast guard and the order value is Rs.920 crore.

10:25am: Bharat Financial Inclusion Ltd rises 4% to Rs.806.10. The company said in a notice to BSE that S. Dilli Raj, President of the Company, who was on leave for two months, has resigned from the services of the Company effective 21 September. M. R. Rao, Managing Director & CEO of the Company, who was additionally overseeing Mr. Dilli Raj’s functions during his absence, will continue to oversee the functions that were under control of Mr. S. Dilli Raj.

10:15am: Edelweiss Financial Services Ltd rises 1.7% to Rs.123.50 after the company said in a notice to BSE that Edelweiss Group to acquire Ambit Alpha Fund.

10:05am: Pratibha Industries Ltd rises 4.8% to Rs.19.75 after the company said its board approved issuing 235.80 million shares or 70% stake of the company to its lenders via strategic debt restructuring.

9:55am: IDBI Bank Ltd rises 3.5% to Rs.75.35 after the company said it sold 6.75 lakh or 1.5% stake of NSE to TIMF Holdings on 21 September.

9:45am: The 30-share S&P BSE Sensex is currently trading higher by 333.21 points, or 1.17%, to 28,840.63, while the Nifty 50 of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) rises 100.40 points, or 1.14%, to 8,877.55.

9:40am: Banking stocks are trading higher. Central Bank of India rises 4.8%, DCB Bank rises 2.8%, Punjab National Bank rises 2.6%, ICICI Bank 2.5%, Dena Bank 2.5%, Federal Bank 2.5%, Oriental Bank of Commerce 2.3%, Indian Bank 2.3%, Andhra Bank 2.3%, Bank of Baroda 2.2%, Yes Bank 2.2%, Uco Bank 2.1%, Union Bank 2%, Syndicate Bank 2%.

9:35am: The rupee on Thursday strengthens against the US dollar at 66.85 per dollar, up 0.25% from its previous close of 67.02, tracking gains in the global markets after the US Federal Reserve left interest rates unchanged.

9:30am: The 10-year bond yield stood at 6.847% compared to its Wednesday’s close of 6.85%.

9:25am: The dollar edges up to ¥100.41 from Wednesday’s 100.30. The euro gains to $1.1184 from $1.1190.

9:15am: Benchmark US crude adds 49 cents to $45.83 per barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Brent crude rises 49 cents to $47.32 in London.

9:10am: Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index rises 1.4% to 24,007.40 points and the Shanghai Composite Index advanced 0.7% to 3,046.49. Japanese markets are closed for a holiday. Seoul’s Kospi adds 0.9% to 2,017.94 and Sydney’s S&P-ASX 200 gains 0.4% to 5,497.40. Benchmarks in New Zealand, Taiwan and Indonesia also rise while Taiwan declines.

9:00am: Asian stocks rises on Thursday after the US and Japanese central banks left interest rates unchanged.

8:50am: The Dow Jones industrial average added 163.74 points, or 0.9%, to 18,293.70. The Standard & Poor’s 500 index picked up 23.36 points, or 1.1%, to 2,163.12. The Nasdaq composite rose 53.83 points, or 1%, to a record 5,295.18.
